Need to look at work schedule soon and plan another attempt. Allan and Choon Poh, thank you for your support anf encouragement. Sri, I'm sure anyone would have done the same. We should look out for one another out there. Don't feel bad about leaving me behind. I was the one who told you to go. I knew I wasn't going to make the cut-off with my ankle. Apart from the ankle, I was perfectly fine so there was no need for you to stay with me and affect your chance at the race.

Don't worry about the race. Can always try the next time. Rest your ankle. Just drop a note to Gobi that "You will be back".

14 June 2012 03:20 am (GMT+08:00) Kuala Lumpur, Singapore

Saw the remaining competitors off to the long march this morning. Hope everyone complete it safe and sound.

Got back to the Kashgar. Lost 4.5KG just doing 3 stages of the race. If the ankle had hold up, I will be in the 70s zone by Sat.

Taking some time to plan the next attempt. Priority is to get the ankle fixed. Then a lot of running and climbing. KK may be my  new training ground.

Susan, it is Singapore. Flat and rockless so 50 should be fine. :p But it will be my last event before the ankle get completely fixed. Plus it is in Oct. I am getting it seriously looked at first thing I get home. It may have been fixed by then. Wishing thinking!!! hahaha

Yew Kwan, It's alright. You've put in your best. It's the journey of experiences and self-driven effort that matters. I admire it sincerely. Take good care of yourself, and looking forward to your sharing back to Singapore. Have a safe trip back home! Cheers!

Kwan, I will never forget you sharing your water with me or telling me that you were going to stay with me. I hated leaving you behind when you said you were going to slow down and told the crew at CP3 where we parted. Hope to meet you again in Singapore and maybe Sahara? Take care of that ankle and email me at [email protected] You may not have finished the race but you are my hero! You gave me company when I needed it desperately. Thank you and God Bless. Shri

Hi You should be proud that you have done 3 stages. Its still a great achievement. You have tried your best and thats all it matters :) I hope you nevertheless had a great experience out there and remember the feeling of how you have pushed yourself forward. Regards Choon Poh

Firstly, a big apology to all of you who have been so supportive.

Didn't make stage 3 finishing cut-of time and have been pulled from the race. My dodgy left ankle finally gave way to the rocks and up-and-downs. Ended up with sections as slow as 2km/h.

Will get that ankle fixed and try again. Meanwhile, I'll stay around to help out and cheer on the rest of the competitiors.

Get well soon, winning is not the prize, its the experience where money can’t buy.

I should have read day 3 before posting on day 2..so sorry to hear your news however you had the guts and motivation to go for it and full respect to you for your focus and determination with the injury you have been carrying. Sure you will still get a huge amount from being there and now time for you to rest and give your body a chance to heal. Take care and well done again x

Hey, don't be sorry. You gave it your best and it's the process that's more important than the end result. Think most of us wouldn't have the courage to join such an extreme competition in a life-time. Rest and enjoy the rest of competition. After all, they do say 休息是为了走更长远的路。加油!I'm waiting to see the fabulous photos of the desert. :)

I hate rocks!!! Dodgy ankle just doesn't like rocks - ankle brace or not. This is a desert' why is it filled with rocks. Finished in just under 10 hours as "sweeper".

The scenery was fantastic. The bad ankle didn't stop me from taking lots of photos. We get to walk through Mars on earth. Desert with snow capped mountain as backdrop. Too bad we can't post photos on this blog.

Owen, I survived day 2. Will take it a day at a time. Lets see how long the ankle will hold up. I am stopping all events on foot after this. Got to give the ankle a chance to recover. But if Susan do the North Face 50, I'll make an exception. ;)

Go Kwanie!! One day at a time, one step at a time. You still sound so positive. Enjoy every moment.

Posted On: 12 Jun 2012 06:16 am

Great going, one day at a time is the best approach, think you should get a person to carry you up the mountain in a sedan chair in Chengdu but may get sea sick then.....

Great work. Keep going.

10 June 2012 05:59 am (GMT+08:00) Kuala Lumpur, Singapore

First stage completed in just under 8 hours. It was shorten to 32km due to rain yesterday. Weather was surprisingly cooling, which was good. And the scenary was even better. Locals are really friendly. All in all a good stage.

Ankle is a little dodgy, but nothing some stretching and rest won't fix (I hope). We get to sleep in proper houses tonight too, lots of snoring anticipated.

Well done Kwanie. Keep it up and keep your spirits up. Make sure you're the one snoring tonight - at least that way, you get some sleep !!

5 more days to go. Flight out in 3 days (more like 2). Doing final check on gears. Ankle is still dodgy, but at least I have manage to get my hand on an ankle brace. Btw, if anyone wants to donate to my fund-raiser for Student Advisory Centre here is the link - https://www.give.sg/TeamGIVE/kwanie/a-desert-footrace-for-the-future

28 May 2012 05:56 am (GMT+08:00) Kuala Lumpur, Singapore

Completed the Singapore Sundown marathon with the pack - 7h:58m:57s. Equivalent to a one day stage minus the heat, and a fair bit of rain. The weighing scale is broken so I've got no way of knowing how heavy the pack was. All I know is it need to shed a few kilos. The sprained ankle was acting up again at half distance. Well, at least I get a chance to experience the pain and learn to accept it. ;)

Finally got round to posting my first blog entry with less than 3 months to Gobi March. Getting a little concerned as I have yet to start any real training. Left ankle is not responding well to the 2 short runs over the past 3 days. 51km on Lantau Island, this Sat, should give a good idea of whether it will hold up without brace.

How did you go on the Lantau50? It was a really popular race, hope you enjoyed it. Riitta
